Pork Checkoff helps students by funding hands on research

The better we can understand hogs, the better we will be able to unlock their potential and take better care of them. To do that we have to have veterinary students who are willing to learn all they can about the livestock we raise. They need to have the tools that allow them to explore more with their education.

The Pork Checkoff is providing these research tools.

The Swine Research and Education Experience (SREE) is helping students reach their goals. Dr. Monique Garcia says this program has given her and others like her a great opportunity.

The SREE program is intended to attract students to careers focused on the swine industry or in research. This is even open to non-veterinary students who may be attracted to the industry. Dr. Timothy Safranski of the University of Missouri has such a student.

Dr. Garcia adds that the hands-on research is giving them the real-world experience that is so vital to their education.

Students who are interested in SREE have until June 30th to apply for the 2022-2023 academic year. You can find out more information by visiting usporkcenter.org.
