When San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy recently appeared in a commercial for the Pioneer brand wearing a custom Pioneer green Brock Purdy jersey, it led to a simple question from viewers.
“Where can I get a Pioneer branded Brock Purdy jersey?”
This led to an opportunity for Pioneer to team up with the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement (IFAA) to give back to students interested in studying agriculture in college.
The jerseys were put on sale for the public and the proceeds from the jersey sales will go towards scholarships for students continuing their education in agriculture says Macy Marek of Pioneer Seeds.
In total, $16,000 dollars was donated to IFAA, which provides merit-based financial awards to hundreds of students each year looking to continue their study of agriculture within Iowa. The money will be divided into four scholarships which will benefit students working towards an agriculture degree.
Marek says the jerseys were highly sought after and helped to raise more money than the initial goal set by Pioneer.
Robin Sampson of the IFAA says that after the money was raised by Pioneer, Brock Purdy was given the choice of where he wanted to donate the money.
She says that the four scholarships will be awarded at next year’s Iowa State Fair.
“Thank you, Pioneer, for teaming up with me and giving back to IFAA to help students further their education,” Purdy said in a statement.
“I spent four years at Iowa State University and saw first-hand how important their ag program is and how many students wish to pursue a degree in agriculture.”
