Last Friday’s Cattle on Feed report confirms a strong demand for cattle and beef says USDA economist, Michael McConnell.
September placements into feedlots of 2.16 million head is down 2% from a year ago. Marketings out of feedlots were up 2% leaving feedlots October 1st with 11.6 million head, almost the exact same number as a year ago. McConnell says that 39.7% of that number were heifers, last October it was 40%.
However, that is not a clear trend yet, says McConnell.
