NPPC talks about strategies in trade

Last week, we started a conversation with Maria Zieba, Vice President of International Affairs for the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC). In the conversation we talked a little bit about the strong start that trade has had in 2023 for the pork industry. Also, we discussed some of the challenges in the trade climate, especially with concerns over proposed labeling rules, and what that could mean as far as trade disputes with Mexico and Canada.

However, we are also seeing those positives with the pork trade in areas like Mexico and the Latin American countries. As we conclude our talk with Maria Zieba, she tells us about some of the growth in these areas.

We are also seeing demand for variety cuts in places like Southeast Asia. China is a big consumer of these cuts, but tariffs are causing us some trouble.

When you are doing business with places like the Dominican Republic, which are infected with African Swine Fever, you have to do your best to help and also protect our own shores from seeing the disease come back with shippers.
