Reaction from agriculture groups across the country to the Environmental Protection Agency?s new Waters of the U.S. rule has largely been negative.
Critics say that the new rule still leaves a lot of uncertainty and unanswered questions. In addition, the new rule could make life difficult for the fertilizer industry. Reagan Giesenschlag, manager of government affairs with the Fertilizer Institute, says that the new rule does not go as far as earlier WOTUS rule proposals in 2022.
Reagan Giesenschlag says that while the EPA may be delivering its messaging this way, the agency did leave a lot of gray area in implementing the rule. She says that will challenge the fertilizer industry.
Giesenschlag says that while she doesn?t think the new ruling will limit fertilizer access, more regulation directly leads to higher costs.
