We’re currently in the middle of National FFA Week, and members across the state of Iowa have been celebrating through all sorts of activities. In fact, the Iowa FFA leadership team has been travelling everywhere to visit as many of the local chapters as possible. Holly Schmitt, president of the Iowa FFA Association, gave us a rundown on how Iowa FFA members have been celebrating FFA Week this year.

National FFA Week started this past Saturday, and it runs all the way through this Saturday the 24th. Schmitt said her celebratory travels have even taken her beyond just the state of Iowa.

While FFA is full of plenty of fun, members are also participating in contests to grow and showcase their professional skills. Schmitt said those leadership development events (LDEs) and career development events (CDEs) showcase just how well-rounded FFA is as a whole.

Additionally, many young eyes will be on this week’s celebration, and a lot of those young eyes will become FFA members in the future. Schmitt said she encourages those kids to take advantage of every opportunity presented to them, even if it’s outside their comfort zone.

You never know where those opportunities might take you- in fact, Schmitt said she even had the opportunity to travel abroad recently.

All in all, Schmitt said this week is a great time to celebrate every past, present, and future FFA member and agriculturist.
