Making sure that our children have access to healthy food at lunch is something that everyone agrees on. However, that’s about where the agreement ends. How nutrition is provided has become a heated and increasingly political debate over the past decade or more. Many agriculture groups have been working together to help ensure that there are delicious meals that provide the proper nutrition for our students.

Dairy has long been at the forefront of this discussion, but it is also a source of some of the conflict between different opinions on the argument. The National Dairy Council (NDC) is working through the National Dairy Checkoff to make sure kids have access to what they need and understand the importance of what they are offered.

Katie Bambacht is the Vice President of Nutrition Affairs with the NDC, and she talks about this importance. They have partnered with the School Nutrition Association to get the message out.

The organizations have launched a new campaign to promote the importance of school meals for proper nutrition.

The message is clear with an essence of foreshadowing.

There are also resources available for schools to use to strengthen this message.
