Mitigating nitrogen loss with a no-burn nitrogen solution

The weather in Iowa this growing season has been unpredictable to say the least. With tornadoes, heavy rainfall and flooding, and even a derecho crossing the state, Iowa has dealt with numerous significant weather issues that bring unique challenges for farmers.

With the excessive rains that some regions of the state have endured, the issue of nitrogen loss in corn has been widespread for growers in Iowa. Nitrogen loss increases when corn crops are faced with heavy rainfall due to runoff, leaching, and denitrification. That is a problem for corn that needs nitrogen during the critical growth stages says Fred Nichols of Huma.

Nichols says that Super Nitro® from Huma® offers a solution for growers to add nitrogen via rapid absorption and quick uptake.

He says that the quick absorption and uptake of nitrogen delivers nutrients almost immediately.

Nichols says that Super Nitro® is versatile and can be tank-mixed with fungicides for growers to apply with ground or aerial application.

Growers can be hesitant to apply additional nitrogen because of fears of damaging the plant. Nichols says Super Nitro® alleviates those concerns because its technology allows for nutrient delivery without leaf burn.

One gallon of Super Nitro® is equivalent to 10 pounds of nitrogen. It can be applied in several ways including aerial application, boom spraying, or with a pivot sprinkler.
