One of the top diseases that cattle producers need to look out for is bovine respiratory disease (BRD). On top of the health risks BRD poses to the cattle, it also adds stress and limits their gains. Tim Parks, cattle technical services manager with Merck Animal Health, said that’s why they introduced their intranasal vaccine, BOVILIS NASALGEN.
Parks said the intranasal vaccine helps build an immune response at the sight of entry as well as a broader systemic response.
As a result, cattle will not only be resistant to BRD in the first place- they’ll also be more prepared to handle the disease in the event of an infection.
Parks also explained why they specifically chose to make this an intranasal vaccine.
Parks added that the vaccine is also very easy to administer, so it lowers the total amount of stress placed on the cattle as well.
