Now is the time to directly benefit from your check off investment by getting involved in some on farm replicated trials that could help your final yields and improve your environmental footprint for next year with the Iowa Soybean Association. Kellie Blair is a fourth-generation farmer from Central Iowa who has been a longtime Iowa Soybean cooperator. Her husband, AJ, also sat on the Board as a director, and she encourages you to get signed up for some replicated trials for next year through which she’s found great value.

“With Iowa Soybean Association, we’re able to get real data, replicated strips and look at maybe what we’re doing and get some real data as well as know how to set trials up. Like I’ve said before, you look from field to field, but here in the same field you can look at differences or see differences. If you can’t see them, there might be yield advantages or there might not be.  So, we’ve done trials with fungicide, cover crops versus no cover crops. We’re in the seventh year of a cover crop trial and getting lots of data – soil samples and so on – back on that. We’ve also done some no-till versus strip till trials, nitrogen rate comparisons.”

Joe McClure with the Iowa Soybean Association says it’s simple to get started at the Research Center for Farming Innovation.

“There is a wide range of expertise and a wide range of real passionate people at RCFI that that really are excited to help out. Give the office a call or go to the website there, is a place there to click in on the work with us tab.”
