As the Iowa State Fair kicks off this morning in Des Moines, we look forward to all the ways we celebrate the agriculture industry in this state. The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association and the Iowa Beef Industry Council embody the “Cattlemen Care” mantra. It’s a way that the producers do what they can for their friends, neighbors, and fellow Iowans.
Now in its 42nd year, the Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show is once again working to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald Houses in Iowa. The locations in Sioux City, Des Moines, and Iowa City provide resources for families of children who are battling medical issues and need to have a home base during treatment. The show pairs kids who have raised the steer with a celebrity showperson and a business sponsor. The show judges in several categories and is followed by the auction on Saturday evening.
Casey Anderson is the Director of Industry Relations for the Iowa Beef Industry Council, and she talks about how the show is shaping up for 2024. The quality of steers and show people are both deep.
Anderson talks about the Ronald McDonald Houses and why they need to do the work they do with this show.
The show kids will be going to the Des Moines house on Friday for a day of service. It is a way for them to draw that connection between the work they are doing to raise funds, and what those funds are being used for.
The Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show will be held at 4:30 pm on Saturday at the Iowa State Fair. You can find links to more information including the livestream and online bidding options on the Steer Show Facebook page.
