Agriculture is constantly evolving, and some of the technological innovations are reach brand-new levels. Now, we even have an Iowa-based company working on an autonomous planter, which can help farmers in a variety of ways. David Krog, CEO of Salin 247, said that, while the physical work on this project has been going on for two years, his original idea has existed for much longer than that.
The prototype is a 4-row, electric-powered planter. Krog said they intentionally started with a smaller planter so they can more easily develop it.
Krog said the planter is also designed to be modified for several purposes.
Krog added that they?re still working on features they want to add, but they have a vision for those changes.
Last year, the model they had used tracks to get around, but they ran in to several issues. The current prototype uses wheels, but Krog said he still thinks the tracks will be useful in certain situations.
Many farmers have also wondered about how an autonomous planter will handle issues out in the field. Krog said they plan on using cameras and computer vision to keep an eye on the planter while it?s operating.
Krog said they want to be able to suit the needs of any farmer, whether they want to plant partially or fully autonomously.
Krog added that they welcome anybody who wants to visit and see the autonomous planter prototype in person.
