The export ecosystem was hit with shutdowns and endless disruptions from the Covid-19 pandemic but slowly and surely United States pork exports have made a strong comeback.

The pork industry experienced a top three export year in 2022 says Courtney Knupp, the vice president of international market development for the National Pork Board.

Knupp says that the NPB uses differentiation studies to determine markets that have good conditions for market expansion.

She says that two regions within close proximity to the United States have recently been designated as expansion zones for U.S. pork exports.

Despite a top three export year in 2022, Knupp says that she expects considerable growth in exports this year.

Knupp says that the industry is committed to growing diversity of cuts for international markets including cuts that aren?t a traditional favorite in that overseas market. Knupp says that pork loin is a cut that has shown versatility and growing interest in expanding markets.
