A farm bill listening session takes place near the Farm Progress Show grounds in Illinois today.
The listening session begins at 9:00am at Richland Community College next to Farm Progress park.
Bayer is just one of many ag companies monitoring issues in the farm bill.
Luke Tomanelli is deputy director of federal relations and policy for Bayer.
?One that always comes up is Waters of the United States. The Trump Administration has taken action at the regulatory and administrative level. I would anticipate seeing similar initiatives in the farm bill. There are a variety of members who will have that as a top priority.?
Tomanelli says Bayer is interested in several other issues as well.
?The double permitting issue. This was an issue dating back to 2009. When an applicator applies pesticides over Waters of the United States, they had to get a permit. Since 2009, they have also had to get a clean water act permit. There has been an effort to remove the requirement for the clean water act.?
House Ag Committee members attending the listening session include:
Chairman K. Michael Conaway (TX-11)
Ranking Member Collin Peterson (MN-07)
Rep. Rodney Davis (IL-13)
Rep. Mike Bost (IL-12)
Rep. Cheri Bustos (IL-17)
Rep. Glenn Thompson (PA-5)
