In row crop production there is a seemingly endless cycle of new challenges that confront farmers each year. Fortunately, growers are very adept at taking on new problems and using the tools at their disposal to overcome those obstacles.
Nick Schweizer is the Director of Business Operations for the United States with BASF and he says farmers in 2023 deal with lofty expectations.
Another challenge is weather volatility. Schweizer says drought, heavy rains, frost, etc. can all significantly affect yields. He says input costs are not helping either.
At the same time, there are still a lot of positives that farmers can look to for hope says Schweizer.
Weed resistance is one of the biggest problems for all of America’s farmers. Herbicide resistant weed pressure can be a menace for growers as weeds continue to develop tolerance and become resistant to specific herbicides.
A new tool from BASF, Surtain™ herbicide, gives farmers a lot of options for when to apply says Schweizer.
Another innovation that BASF hopes to roll out in 2024 is Liberty® ULTRA herbicide which aims to improve coverage with its formulation.
