Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) says that it is looking more and more likely that a new farm bill is not passed in time in 2024. With a time crunch for Congress following the presidential election in early November, and still no farm bill compromise in place, another one year extension of the 2018 farm bill seems like the likely outcome.
Grassley says that if another one-year extension of the farm bill is approved, the work on crafting a new farm bill needs to be done early in 2025. He says the only way that a new farm bill gets passed is by lawmakers crossing the aisle and making compromises on a bipartisan bill.
Without an updated and modernized farm bill passed this year, Grassley was asked what that means for ag lending in 2025.
Senator Grassley made his comments on Tuesday during his weekly ag conference call with farm broadcasters and reporters.
