As ag groups continue to rally in a push for a new five-year farm bill, the situation continues to get more complicated with time running out. This week Congress passed a stop gap funding bill which did not include any temporary farm aid.
United States Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) was asked during his weekly ag conference call, about the likelihood of any temporary assistance for farmers after it was not included in the stop gap funding bill.
Grassley says that the current economic environment for agriculture does not qualify for disaster assistance.
Grassley was also asked during his call if farmers could be facing a reality of no new and updated farm bill and no temporary farm relief.
He says there has been talk in Washington of other ways to get the farm bill passed after the election but was quick to dismiss the proposal.
Senator Grassley made his comments on Tuesday during his weekly ag conference call with farm broadcasters and reporters.
