FSA offers penalty-free early termination of expiring CRP contracts

It is nothing new to see farmers requesting early termination of Conservation Reserve Program acres. Usually, it is granted in the final year with an applicable penalty. This allows producers to bring their acres back into production and not lose a large chunk of their contract payment.

This year, the United States Department of Agriculture?s Farm Service Agency is waving that penalty after the primary nesting season ends. According to FSA Administrator Zach Ducheneaux, it is part of a plan to allow farmers to get their acres ready to go back into production as quickly as possible to help alleviate some of the food shortages being seen around the world.

Ducheneaux also says that payments authorized in the Emergency Relief Program, last September, are starting to go out.
