The American Farm Bureau is looking ahead to 2025 after a strong finish to 2024 with farm aid being included in the Continuing Resolution. Producers will be helped by $10 billion dollars in farm aid and $21 billion in farm disaster aid as part of the CR.
Next up is the push for a new five-year farm bill in 2025. Net farm income is down nearly $40 billion or 25 percent from last year meaning a modernized and updated farm bill is even more important. American Farm Bureau’s Joe Gilson says the fight for farmers will begin early in the new year.
Gilson says he won’t rule out another request for farm aid if the ag economy is in need. He says USDA is going to be working on disbursing the approved farm aid from the CR during a transition of leadership in the new government.
USDA has a 90-day period to disburse funds to producers. Gilson says the takeaway from the recent farm aid success is that when both parties see farmers’ needs and work together, they can get things done.
