We talk about the importance of safety around livestock and implements, but it goes much further than just watching the moving equipment. It also means protecting the senses you use to process the dangers around you, including your hearing.
Dr. Demarcus Bush is an audiologist and an Assistant Professor of Audiology at South Carolina State University. He says that farmers across the country may not realize the effects they are having on their hearing by not protecting themselves.
Dr. Bush has conducted many tests and clinics. He says he has uncovered some longstanding habits which can lead to hearing damage as well as other health issues.
Dr. Bush says farmers need to be cognizant of their hearing and take steps to protect themselves.
Dr. Bush hopes to change attitudes towards hearing protection devices.
