Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins recently announced that USDA will be disbursing up to $10 billion directly to ag producers via the Emergency Commodity Assistance Program for the 2024 crop year. The payments will provide a lift for producers dealing with high costs and low commodity prices. However, the future remains murky with uncertainty creating headaches for farmers.
Jordan Dux, Senior Director of National Affairs with the Nebraska Farm Bureau, says the assistance is very timely for producers.
While the economic assistance is helpful, it is just a temporary fix according to Joe Glauber, Research Fellow Emeritus at the American Enterprise Institute. Glauber says that with tariffs being enacted against several of the United States biggest ag trade partners, concern is warranted.
Jordan Dux says that the unknowns are creating issues for farmers.
