It is the news we have been waiting for. It was announced, this morning, that an agreement has been reached, in principle, on the 2018 Farm Bill. The following statement was released, Thursday morning:

?We?re pleased to announce that we?ve reached an agreement in principle on the 2018 Farm Bill. We are working to finalize legal and report language as well as CBO scores, but we still have more work to do. We are committed to delivering a new farm bill to America as quickly as possible.?

Right now, there is still language to finalize. House Ag Committee Chairman Conaway elaborates on “crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s.”

There is still a lot of work to be done. A conference bill has to be written and signed by all the conferees. They need the numbers from the Congressional Budget Office, and the list goes on. Chairman Conaway runs down the list of what needs to happen next.

The goal is to get this done in the lame duck session. This has been the position of supposed incoming House Ag Committee Chairman, and current Ranking Member Collin Peterson. He has been oft quoted as saying he didn?t want to, ?start again?, even after the Democrats took control of the House. However with so much to do and so little time, Current Chairman Conaway summed it up best.
