Recently, Fareway and the Iowa Farm Bureau teamed up to donate over 57,000 pounds of ground meat to Iowa food banks as part of the Food Bank of Iowa’s “Meat the Need” campaign. From October 30th to November 4th, one pound of lean protein was donated to local food banks for every 10-pound tube of ground beef sold at Fareway. This donation comes at an incredibly important time, as there has never been a greater demand for high-quality protein. Iowa Farm Bureau President Brent Johnson said they’ve worked with Fareway several times, but they are especially proud of this partnership.
With the holidays coming up, Johnson said they hope this donation can help make some celebrations a little less stressful.
Jeff Cook, Fareway vice president of market operations, said that working with the Food Bank of Iowa is a natural fit for them since they’re already all about food.
Everybody deserves to have a warm and nutritious meal, and Cook said this donation will hopefully be able to provide families with meals for at least the next six weeks.
