Iowa Senator Joni Ernst recently met with north-central Iowa egg producers to hear their concerns and experiences with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza.

During a visit to Clarion in Wright County, Ernst said much of the discussion centered around bird flu outbreaks and what can be done to help poultry producers during this uncertain time.

Ernst says planning efforts after the 2015 HPAI outbreak in Iowa is providing much-needed support this go-round.

Ernst adds HPAI support and resources is something that needs to be included in the next farm bill.

Recent data from the American Farm Bureau shows the number of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) cases in the United States are outpacing the 2014/2015 outbreak.
