The dry weather is allowing harvest in Iowa to progress at a quick pace, and that’s especially true for soybeans in northeast Iowa. While the ease of harvest is great, the dry weather also has some inherent risks. Beck’s agronomist Lee Koenigsfeld said they’ve gotten a lot done on soybeans, and they’re coming out of the field very dry.
With that level of dryness, it’s very important to look out for pod shattering.
Koenigsfeld added that it’s easy for soybean dust to accumulate on machinery as well, so it’s important to make sure to blow those piles of dust off in order to eliminate fire hazards.
