Derecho hits parts of corn belt again

We had thunderstorm activity show up in parts of Iowa yesterday. We saw some wind damage in some parts of the state. By the time it was ready to leave our state, the word Derecho was being tossed around by forecasters in the eastern corn belt.

Fellow farm broadcaster Gale Cunningham of WYXY in Champaign, IL talks about the welcome rain coming with some very unwelcome side effects.

Cunningham and his intern were broadcasting at a county fair when the storm came up, and they got to shelter in the nick of time. Reminiscent of the 2020 storm in Iowa, agriculture operations took a lot of damage.

Cunningham says that even though two or three inches of rain fell, the overly dry ground has already soaked it all up.
