U.S. beef is thriving in Mexico’s foodservice and hospitality sectors, but each major destination in Mexico has specific product needs. Gerardo Rodriguez, U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) regional director for Mexico, Central America, and the Dominican Republic, said there is a wide variety of demand across the country.
Mexico’s Pacific coast also has different preferences.
Rodriguez said U.S. beef has duty-free access to Mexico, and maintaining it is critical, especially given the competitive landscape and the fact that the peso has weakened by more than 20% since the start of 2024.
