Marketing crops can seem like a daunting task for someone who isn?t prepared to navigate all the intricacies the trade has to offer. The CME group has tools and advice to help you navigate those uncertain waters.
During the National Association of Farm Broadcasting convention in Kansas City, we had the chance to talk with Susan Sutherland of the CME group. Sutherland says producers prefer to just grow their crops. She says marketing isn?t always as fun.
Sutherland says in a year like 2018, the options route was one-way producers could go. It helped them minimize the risk of adverse market drivers such as trade and weather.
Sutherland says while the days of not marketing what you don?t have in the bin may be over, there are still cash options for those who haven?t sold their crop. Sutherland suggests working with a few different advisors.
