The vital role all involved in eastern Iowa agriculture play in regard to creating an affordable, safe and reliable food supply and driving local economies on display recently at the Jones County Beef Banquet. Each year for the past 85 years, the Eastern Iowa Agricultural Community has come together to share one of the best ribeye steak meals of the year, celebrate the past year’s successes and lend a helping hand to those in need. The 86th year was no different:
“Great crowd. We served 697 and I think it was one of the best ribeyes I’ve ever had at our county banquet. When you come to Jones County and see us cooking steak, you know why we do an excellent job.”
Jones County Cattlemen’s President Doug Kurt says from the producer side of the evening, four deserving youth were awarded scholarships and two tireless producers were rightfully inducted into the Jones County Cattlemen’s Hall of Fame. A big Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network Congratulations, to Ralph and Peter Hosch on their well-earned recognition. Plus, $5400 was raised to help our friends in Texas recover from those nasty wildfires, as the hat was passed and the Jones County Cattlemen matched the crowd’s donation. As for the consumer side of the equation, promotion of 100% real high quality beef made possible by support through events like the banquet, is another passion of the Jones County Cattlemen:
“Oh yeah, we have a lot of events, several grillings in April, May, graduation seasons and stuff. In June we participate in the Ag Breakfast in Jones County, along with the Dairy Supporters and the Jones County Pork Producers. At the end of June, we do the Performance Beef where we support the 4H and FFA and a market class show, with results on the rail being presented at the Jones County Fair.”
Another fantastic night for all involved to help kick off National Agricultural Week.
