Pork certification programs are designed to help the farmers who raise pigs and also those who transport pigs to continually improve practices.

Stephanie Wetter, the director of animal welfare for the National Pork Board, tells the IARN that the two main certification programs for swine production, PQA plus and TQA, lead to building trust with consumers.

While the certification programs are always being updated, it is a multi-year cycle.

She says that Prop 12 compliance is also something that producers are striving to achieve early in 2024.
