Brazil plants 2nd corn crop after disappointing soybean season

As we get ready to get into the fields, that means that Brazil is ready to get out of theirs for the time being. But don?t worry, they are gearing up for the second season in the warmer climates of the country. As we look at how the growing season was for the Brazilians, one word comes to mind in the soybean arena, and that is ?disappointing.?

Just like in the U.S., Brazilian farmers are putting last season behind them, and gearing up for the next one. Farmers all over the globe must have a short memory when it comes to things they couldn?t anticipate, like the weather.

Dr. Michael Cordonnier is an agronomist with Soybean and Corn Advisor Inc. He says that even after the less than stellar turnout for soybeans, the second planting of corn has a good start.

However, that doesn?t mean that there aren?t any concerns. Brazil?s producers are on edge, worrying if an early frost could damage this Safrinha corn crop before it fully matures.

Argentina is about ten percent complete on their corn harvest, and soybeans are at about five percent harvested. The numbers there just continue to be low. The drought they had for a long part of their growing season had its effect. However, things are beginning to turn around. It?s just too late for the crop coming out.

Cordonnier talks about his updated harvest estimates.

South America?s soybean numbers are just going to be dismal across the board.

This puts more pressure on the United States to come out absolutely perfect this year. The world will probably be looking to us to fill in the gaps, and we cannot afford to allow any jeopardization of the crops.
