A sprayer that provides full weed control but also requires less herbicide is the dream of every grower. Greeneye Technology hopes to provide that combination of full weed control and lower input costs with the 2023 rollout of its spot sprayer system says David Greer U.S. sales representative for Greeneye Technology.
Greeneye utilizes 24 cameras located on the sprayer boom to target weeds. The spot spraying, which is powered by artificial intelligence, targets weeds only and therefore uses drastically less herbicide says Greer.
A field trial undertaken by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?s Agricultural Research Division (ARD) last summer found that the Greeneye system:
-Showed a 94% reduction in burndown herbicide use during pre-emergence spraying compared to broadcast application.
-Showed an 87% reduction in non-residual herbicide use during post-emergence spraying compared to broadcast application.
In addition to the smart spraying/spot spraying technology, Greeneye also features a broadcast spraying option typical of a traditional sprayer says Greer.
The Greeneye sprayer system is unique because it is a retrofit system that can be outfitted to an existing sprayer. Greer says that if you have a sprayer, it is likely able to be retrofit with a Greeneye sprayer boom.
In addition to the cost saving aspect of using less herbicide the Greeneye system also is an environmentally friendly option, allowing growers to use less herbicide to fight weeds while lessening the impact on soil and water.
