The Big Boar competition is one of the fan favorite livestock events at the Iowa State Fair each year. This year’s winner, Finnegan, weighed in at a staggering 1,420 lbs on Monday. Finnegan weighed in as the heaviest of the seven hogs competing.
The Big Boar from Monticello also set the overall weight record for the contest at the Iowa State Fair. Finnegan weighed 85 lbs. more than the previous record holder, Reggie, the 2012 Big Boar contest winner.
Bryan Britt of Monticello is the owner of Finnegan and says that his pig’s unique frame allowed him to fill out to a record weight.
Britt says that despite what you might think about a champion Big Boar, Finnegan is a picky eater.
Britt also won the Big Boar competition in 2019 and 2021 with his pigs Captain and Irish Cowboy. He says that his goal in returning to the competition was to eventually bring a record setting hog to the Iowa State Fair.
The Super Bull Contest will take place at 7pm on Monday evening at the Livestock Pavilion.
