National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Ethan Lane issued the following statement after attending President Donald J. Trump’s reciprocal tariff announcement at the White House on Wednesday:
“For too long, America’s family farmers and ranchers have been mistreated by certain trading partners around the world. President Trump is taking action to address numerous trade barriers that prevent consumers overseas from enjoying high-quality, wholesome American beef. NCBA will continue engaging with the White House to ensure fair treatment for America’s cattle producers around the world and optimize opportunities for exports abroad.”
Lane says that NCBA was thankful to be invited to the White House for the announcement.
He says that while American cattle producers raise the highest-quality and safest beef in the world hurdles are still in place to market products internationally. There are numerous countries that impose tariff and non-tariff trade barriers on American beef that inhibit opportunities to export U.S. beef.
Lane says that tariffs could knock down some of the barriers for marketing U.S. beef to other countries.
In a press release, NCBA gave examples of some of the tariff and non-tariff trade barriers on American beef that limit export opportunities:
