Using corn seed traits to manage pest issues

Disease, pest, and weed pressure get stronger every year, so it’s important to have new seed traits that can better handle those problems. The corn lineup at Pioneer is currently going through some changes to make sure that farmers will have enough tools in their toolbox. Will Tubbs, market development specialist with Corteva Agriscience, said they are transitioning over to Vorceed Enlist corn traits.

As for above-ground pressure, Tubbs said they are switching to Powercore Enlist traits, which could prove helpful with this year’s enhanced risk for pest problems.

Many pests, like corn rootworm, are becoming resistant to pesticides. Fortunately, Tubbs said these new traits will help manage the adult beetles and potentially curb future rootworm populations.
