United States Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) says that a new Congress and unified party control should improve the chances of a new five-year farm bill in 2025.
Grassley says that hardline GOP budget hawks in the House had an excuse this year not to give the Speaker the votes he needed to bring up and pass a committee-approved farm bill.
Grassley argues that with a Republican majority in the House and Senate, next year will be different.
Grassley says that there may be another incentive for party unity and not just related to the farm bill.
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries told reporters recently that any new five-year farm bill will again demand bipartisanship. Jeffries vowed his party will “by necessity” be engaged, since he argued, “the incoming House GOP majority will not be able to do much without us.”
