So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. -James 4:17
A few months ago my husband and I attended a christian concert.
At the concert they talked about adoption or sponsoring a child in another country.
I wept as the speaker talked and as the video played. However, I was so excited because I was in a room full of thousands of people who were Christians. I smiled because thousands of kids would be sponsored and adopted, because that’s obviously what God calls us to do.
However, the opposite happened, maybe a hundred people stepped up and got the packet for sponsoring a child who desperately need it in another country.
I left so mad at the room full of people that didn’t care about the least of these, after singing about a God who literally said to care about the least of us. It was only like $30 a month, how could people not spare $30?
My husband and I were given a packet for a little boy in China. I was so pumped for us to help him out.
The other day I was fumbling through my office when I found the packet and saw the little boys face.
We had not sent in our packet and finished the process to start sponsoring him. It had been five months since the concert.
I had every intention to love on this kid, but I dropped the ball.
How often do we have really good intentions to do things for Christ or others, but we just let things get in the way?
I remember getting so mad at the Christians in that arena that night, but my stomach sinks knowing that I am no different than them.
Just because I had every intention to help, doesn’t mean anything if I never did.
There’s a saying, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
So, what road are you paving?
Prayer: “God, please forgive me for the things I intend to do, but never do. Thank you for showing me my weakness and making it a strength. Help me to carry through the things you are calling me to do. In your name I pray, Amen.”
