There are many issues for producers to consider as we approach the next year. This year was marked by high volatility, so how can we take a look at those issues and be more prepared for next year? A lot of that volatility was evident in farmland prices, and the state of Iowa alone saw two record-setting sales. Matt Erickson, economic and policy advisor with Farm Credit Services of America, provided his thoughts on what likely caused those strong land prices.
On top of that, there?s a very important piece of legislation that will be written over the course of this next year- the 2023 Farm Bill. Erickson said it?s important for producers to make their voices heard so that the most important issues in agriculture can be addressed in that bill.
Erickson added some advice for farmers as we enter a time where input costs and inflation will be exerting even more pressure.
