RR+ Challenge Creates Decision-Making Tool for Farmers

Dan ChildsA farmer challenge on weed management has helped with decision-making for 2016. Participants in the Roundup Ready PLUS challenge were able to compare the weed management platform to competitors and find what works best for their field. Dan Childs, Weed Management Technology Development Representative for Monsanto, says the Roundup Ready PLUS system worked well in Indiana on yields.

?The Genuity Roundup Ready to Yield soybeans had very high yields compared to the competitors that we tested against. The weed control was similar for both programs; but the big news here was the bottom line, more yield.?

As farmers make decisions on inputs for the coming year, Childs reminds them that Roundup Ready PLUS incentivizes the use of residuals.

?These residual herbicides and with corresponding glyphosate products like PowerMAX and WeatherMAX , they will give money back per acre for using the residuals. So it?s a great program for anyone that wants to save some money and get weed control.?

For Indiana, Childs says they?ve partnered with other companies to bring the best products.

?Certainly products that fit (in Indiana) are products like Warrant, which is a microencapsulated cedecor product, very easy on the soybeans, good grasp of weed control. We have a product called Warrant Ultra which is the Warrant encapsulated product along with another active ingredient that?s in the PPO family. Certainly we have Rowel and Rowel FX, a couple of great residual herbicides with a broad spectrum and very long-lasting, too.?
