Farmers around rural Iowa know that we depend on good roads, rails, and more to get our commodities safely to our farms, elevators, and ports of export. The need for repairs and upgrade to these infrastructure pieces is great and has sadly been neglected for years. Wile projects are being completed, the funding hadn?t always been there to help the pace of work outpace the need for work.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg sat down with Farm Broadcasters on Tuesday to update us on what needs to be done to keep bringing our infrastructure into the present. I asked him what the criteria were to select a project, and how can rural America succeed when it is going to go up against urban projects that are just as needed.
He gave this response.
There is still a long way to go, but Secretary Buttigieg says his department is committed to bringing all of America?s infrastructure up to date.
