SCN Coalition encourages you to scout for 2023

If you had a major soybean cyst nematode problem in 2022, you cannot say we didn?t warn you. All the way back at Commodity Classic, we talked with the SCN Coalition?s Greg Tylka of Iowa State University about what you needed to do to prevent a heavy infestation of nematodes this growing year. This isn?t a pest that you spray for in the summer when you see them appear. You must begin the attack prior to planting your crops. Therefore, the SCN Coalition is amping up their calls for you to take this time to get ahead of 2023?s crop.

Monica Pennewit is on Dr. Tylka?s team at Iowa State. She talked with us during the farm progress show about the importance of getting out now and scouting for next year?s plans. She also talked about the importance of crop rotation and switching up your resistance traits.

Pennewit says that now is THE time to be soil sampling to get ahead of next year?s populations.

In October, BASF will be sponsoring SCN Action Month, and helping farmers get this soil testing done with access to a free sample kit.

Iowa has been the tale of two climates this year. The west is in a drought and the East is wet. Pennewit talks about what they are seeing in both regions.
