U.S. Meat Export Federation staff last year documented record exports of United States pork to Oceania. Exports to Australia increased by about one-third year-over-year, while exports to New Zealand jumped by nearly 40-percent. USMEF plans to further enhance pork’s presence in this region.
Sabrina Yin, USMEF regional director for southeast Asia, looks forward to building on last year’s success.
?For the Australia and New Zealand markets, we want to continue to support the small goods processor. We also want to take advantage of the already processed U.S. pork moving into the market,? Yin said. ?A lot of other items are available in the retail supermarket region.?
U.S. Meat Export Federation staff look to connect suppliers with prospective customers, including distributors and foodservice operators. Suppliers aim to expand their product offerings by incorporating more fresh products into Oceania?s food sector.
?We want to plan a program to reach out to direct consumers and food service operators. All of these cooked, processed products from the U.S. will save them time and costs because labor costs and raw ingredient costs in Australia/New Zealand is one of the major factors operators look at,? Yin said.
