ASA & USB raising mental health awareness with #SoyHelp campaign

Along with many other observances, May is Mental Health Month. During this COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen many efforts put forth to raise awareness for everybody affected by these difficult times. Agriculture is not alone in these struggles, but the struggles farmers face are unique. From depressed crop and livestock prices to dumping milk and euthanizing animals, farmers are watching their livelihoods be hit by something that is not their fault. Their supplies are good, and the quality of the products is phenomenal. However, supply chain disruptions are causing this distress to people who just want to sell their goods.

The American Soybean Association (ASA) and the United Soybean Board (USB) recognize this and are doing what they can to raise awareness for the mental health of producers.

They are working with state organizations to raise awareness for rural mental health through the #SoyHelp campaign. ASA Vice President Kevin Scott says the campaign was developed following a survey of leaders in both soybean organizations.

This simple hashtag campaign is meant to highlight the resources that farmers can use to get help during this stressful time. These issues are far-reaching because farming has so many different pieces and each one can be causing an emotional overload. Scott says #SoyHelp is meant to help bring us together and support all farmers, no matter what they produce. Even a simple conversation can go so far to help a stressed individual.

Scott reminds farmers that things will turn around, but this campaign will help get them through the tough time right now.
