African Swine Fever (ASF) has been decimating hog herds throughout Southeast Asia. Countries like China, Vietnam, the Philippines, and even South Korea are having to deal with the effects of this terrible disease. Not only is it disastrous for the hog producers, but it is also causing havoc for their international markets. They are needing to look for more foreign pork to fill their needs.

U.S. Meat Export Federation?s Travis Arp was just in the Philippines and Vietnam. In Vietnam, ASF has spread to all 63 of the country?s provinces. It has caused them to lose 4.7 million hogs or 19% of this year?s production. USMEF is working hard to show how U.S. Pork can fill their needs.

The Philippines has just recently started to feel the effects of ASF. The disease was only found there in the past month. However, meat packers on the islands have already started looking at ways to minimalize the impact ASF will have on their supply chain. Travis Arp said it was an interesting time to be in Manilla.

With so much ASF decimation of Asian hog supplies, the United States stands ready to help keep their supply needs met.
