Trade between Canada, Mexico, and the United States looks to improve in the next few months.
Canadian Parliament late Friday ratified the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue says USMCA is ?a great victory for America?s agriculture industry.?
?USMCA locks in and expands access to our neighbors to the north and south,” Secretary Perdue said. “I thank President Trump for negotiating this deal and for always supporting America?s farmers and ranchers. We will continue to work with both Canada and Mexico in implementing this agreement.”
The revised North American Free Trade Agreement contains key provisions to: Dairy market access, biotechnology, geographical indications, sanitary/phytosanitary measures, poultry and eggs, wheat, and wine and spirits.
U.S. Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Ted McKinney says the finalized agreement features new and updated policies, which expand upon agricultural trade in our first and second largest export markets.
?Brand new, never seen before language on the biosciences, biotechnology, (and) sanitary and phytosanitary chapters,? McKinney said.
President Donald Trump anticipates full implementation on June 1, 2020.
