Iowa has received plenty of rain recently, and the temperatures have finally cooled off as well. On top of that, we’re looking at one of the biggest crops in recent history. Southwest Iowa Beck’s Agronomist Nate Meyer said he’s not sure that he’s ever seen such a big crop at this time of year already.
However, the plentiful moisture and cooler temps mean that the conditions are ripe for tar spot to impact corn fields. Meyer said tar spot can start to bring down yields very quickly.
Since we are seeing lower commodity prices this year, Meyer said it’s important for farmers to do whatever they can to keep tar spot from stealing their yields.
