EMMETSBURG, Iowa – At a grand opening celebration Wednesday, September 3, POET-DSM’s Project LIBERTY cellulosic ethanol plant will open its doors with a grand opening celebration.

When operational, the facility is projected to process 770 tons of corn stover (cobs, leaves, husks and stalks) ever day, in order to produce 20 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol each year. POET-DSM says the annual output will increase at a later date to 25 million gallons each year. Currently plant personnel are running biomass through a pretreatment process in anticipation of production of the first gallons of ethanol.

POET-DSM Advanced Biofuels says Project LIBERTY will be its flagship plant as it plans to license cellulosic ethanol technology to companies nationally and globally.
